Abstract2026-10-07 00:30:56Ethereum L2 Abstract to wind down operations, sets Dec. 15, 2026 asset migration deadlineEthereum layer-2 network Abstract said it will gradually cease operations after nearly three years of running the network, with a full shutdown scheduled for Dec. 15, 2026. The team warned that users who do not bridge assets out of the chain before that deadline will no longer be able to access those funds once the network is closed. For now, users holding assets on Abstract can withdraw through the project’s official Migration Hub or its Native Bridge, which carries an approximately three-hour delay. Abstract also said its engineering and ecosystem teams will help projects in the network move to other chains. On the reason for the shutdown, the team said major industry changes have made the operating model of an independent blockchain focused only on Consumer Crypto difficult to sustain. It cited a constrained DeFi ecosystem, weak on-chain liquidity, low institutional participation, and a smaller budget than competitors, saying those factors left the network’s growth stalled and led to the decision to end operations after internal review.20
